Hidden beneath the rolling prairie of the southern Black Hills is one of the world’s longest caves! Swaying prairie grasses, forested hillsides, and an array of wildlife such as bison, elk, and prairie dogs welcome visitors to one of our country’s oldest national parks and one of its few remaining intact prairies. Secreted beneath is one of the world’s longest caves, Wind Cave. Named for barometric winds at its entrance, this complex labyrinth of passages contains a unique formation – boxwork.

There are no fees to drive through or hike in the park. There are fees associated with visiting the cave or camping in the park's campground. There are also fees associated with special park uses such as special events and professional photography. These activities need a special use permit.

Tickets for most cave tours are sold on a first-come, first-served basis; however, reservations are accepted for schools or large groups. Groups need to make arrangements several weeks in advance. Call 605-745-4600 for information or reservations.
