"In the Community to Serve"

You’re probably familiar with the expression "A light bulb went on," meaning someone just had a good idea. Well that’s what happened—quite literally—on the border between Montana and North Dakota in 1924.

Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. was created that year to serve a handful of small farm communities in the area. Since then the company has grown into a large regional energy supplier. During those years of growth, they’ve changed their name a few times, acquired a number of smaller companies and progressed side-by-side with those they serve.

Interstate Welcome Centers: 2017 Publication Program

South Dakota visitor industry members may display their publications at any of the nine Interstate Welcome Centers. All industry members interested in displaying their publication at a Welcome Center must first review the Publication Program requirements and then submit the online Publication Program application. The requirements will be strictly enforced, and any business whose application has not been submitted by the deadline will not be allowed to display their publication at the Welcome Centers during the 2017 season.

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and buds and blooms are beginning to sprout. These are all good indicators that spring is here, which also reminds us it's that time of year to start making plans for our annual Black Hills & Badlands Literature Swap & Summer Kick-off Party.

This year’s event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, in Rushmore Rooms C & D at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

Paul Horsted has more than 30 years of experience as a photographer, with an impressive career of experiences that span from news, features, sports and weddings, to advertising, landscape, wildlife and more. Though he still enjoys nature and landscape photography, nowadays his primary focus is on "re-photographing" historical images from across the Dakotas, and in doing so, learning about and documenting the history and changes after 100 years or more.
