Live, intimate performances abound in many venues throughout the Black Hills. The area offers an amazing diversity of performing arts programs year-round, with many appropriate for the entire family. During the fall, winter and spring, performances by the Black Hills Symphony, Black Hills Chamber Music Society, Rapid City Concert Association, Black Hills Blues Society, Black Hills Bluegrass Association and dance groups perform active concert schedules in Rapid City. Thriving community theatre productions, local musicians, lecture and film events fill local concert halls and auditoriums, as well as venues at our local churches and universities (Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City.)
The hottest country and rock groups are booked for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the many Deadwood, Custer, Hill City and Rapid City celebrations. Diverse local talent can be found in a variety of venues throughout the hills at festivals, museums and clubs. Every Thursday night in Rapid City, Summer Nights on 7th features food, art vendors, incredible local entertainment and kids' activities in downtown. Also, downtown, Main Street Square features fountains in the summer and ice skating in the winter and many festivals and events, ringed by trendy shops and cafes.

From June through August, fabulous theater productions are performed six nights a week at the Black Hills Playhouse in beautiful Custer State Park. Relax, enjoy and escape to the heart of the Park to see theater in a casual atmosphere where the buffalo roam.

This large, partially-restored 100-year old historic performing arts venue on Lead's Main Street hosts theatre, concerts, weddings and presentations year-round. The Historic Homestake Opera House was beautifully built by the Homestake Gold Mine; surving a fire in 1984. Tours are $10.
