Swimming is allowed at the park’s five lakes Center Lake, Legion Lake, Stockade Lake, Sylvan Lake and the Game Lodge Pond. Please keep in mind that there are no lifeguards on duty at any of the park’s lakes. Boating is permitted in the four lakes; however, restrictions apply.
Please refer to the park magazine or ask at the visitor centers for these restrictions. Fishing is allowed anywhere in Custer State Park. A valid South Dakota fishing license is required.
Sylvan Lake is probably the most recognizable of the five Custer State Park lakes, and of any of the Black Hills lakes for that matter.
Stockade Lake is the largest of Custer State Park's five lakes and boasts the most amenities for campers with three campground areas that between them, can accommodate any size camping option from large RV to tent camping
With picturesque Sylvan and Stockade lakes receiving most of the attention, and luckily for those who know about it, Center Lake can be often overlooked.
