Affordable Adventures Tours is a well-established tour company in the Black Hills, founded in 1991 by Carol and Doug Cameron. The company started with tours to the filming locations of Dances with Wolves and later expanded to include various other destinations with narrated tours featuring history, geology, and local lore. Upon the Camerons' retirement, Ann and Lin Thompson purchased the business and have upheld its high standards.
Our history
Ann, a native of the Black Hills, has a deep connection to the region. With a Business Management degree from the University of Wyoming, Ann combines her love of history with engaging storytelling. Her personal stories and extensive knowledge create unforgettable tours, and her hospitality was recognized with the 2023 Ruth Ziolkowski Outstanding Hospitality & Customer Service Award.
Lin, brings expertise in tourism and a calm, approachable demeanor. His background includes a degree in Tourism and Business, as well as years of experience leading narrated tours. Together, Ann and Lin have built a team of enthusiastic guides with a collective 150 years of experience, ensuring every tour is memorable and well-executed.

Affordable Adventures offers a variety of year-round tours, weather permitting. Popular options include tours of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, Devil’s Tower, the Badlands and Wall Drug, and the Wildlife Loop with Needles Highway. Special events like the Buffalo Roundup are also available.
