The first thing that struck me was the inn's serene setting. The attention to detail in landscaping the lush gardens was a testament to the care and pride the owners take in their property. I could hardly wait to explore the grounds, but first, I was eager to see my suite.
Opening the door to my room was like stepping into a private sanctuary. The king-sized bed, adorned with the finest linens, looked incredibly inviting. As I walked out onto my private patio, I was greeted by breathtaking views of the forest. This tranquil scene was perfectly complemented by the private hot tub on the patio—a perfect spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of nature.
I’d researched the property in advance. It was obvious that each of the inn's ten suites is designed with relaxation in mind. My suite featured a cozy fireplace and a whirlpool tub, making it the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. Every detail in the room's decor and amenities was impressive, creating a luxurious yet comfortable atmosphere.
Exploring outside a bit, I admired the remarkable flowers, bushes, and trees. All carefully planted to provide numerous comfortable spots to relax. I noticed not far from the main house they offer three beautiful RV Sites for those who travel with their own home (RV). I was told that RV guests are welcome to enjoy the luxury and comfort of the inn as well as house guests.
One of the highlights of my stay was the gourmet breakfasts cooked by Nancy, one of the owners. Served each morning beside a waterfall, the sound of cascading water combined with the delicious aromas of a freshly prepared meal was a feast for the senses. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, using local ingredients to create a truly memorable dining experience. This was more than just breakfast—it was a delightful start to each day.
For entertainment, the inn provides a variety of options. The media room, equipped with a 120-inch screen and surround sound, offers a cinematic experience without leaving the comfort of the inn. It's an excellent way to unwind with a favorite movie after a day of sightseeing. The gathering room, filled with board games and a fireplace, was another favorite spot of mine. Many of the guests (including myself) found it to be a cozy space to relax and engage with others.
Summer Creek Inn's central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the Black Hills. Some of South Dakota's most iconic landmarks, including Mount Rushmore and the historic town of Deadwood are just short drives away as is the remarkable town of Hill City – known for its boutique shops, art galleries, and dining options.
One of the days, I set off to explore. First stop, Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The journey was short and scenic, and the monument itself was awe-inspiring. Ater that I visited Hill City, satisfied my shopping desires, and enjoyed a tasty lunch too. Returning to the inn later in the day, I was grateful for the comfort and luxury that awaited me. The whirlpool tub in my suite was particularly welcoming after a day of walking and exploring.
Evenings at Summer Creek Inn were equally enchanting. I spent my nights under the starlit skies, gathered around cozy fire pits with other guests. The sense of community and the warmth of the fire made for an idyllic end to the day. For those who prefer a more private evening, the inn also offers an on-site wine and beer bar, perfect for enjoying a quiet drink and cozying up with a good book before retiring to your suite.
The inn's ambiance, combined with its top-notch facilities, made my stay truly exceptional. From the landscaped gardens to the private hot tub-equipped patios, every detail was designed to enhance my experience. The attentive and friendly staff further enriched my stay, always available to offer recommendations or assist with any needs. Should I ever need a location for a special event, corporate retreat or just a friend’s getaway - this will be it.
As my time at Summer Creek Inn drew to a close, I realized that this has been more than just a getaway—it was an experience that I would cherish, and I’d want to return!
