You are invited to the Second Annual WaTiki® 3v3 Triple Threat Basketball Tournament at the Box Elder Events Center! The WaTiki® Triple Threat 3v3 Basketball Tournament gives area basketball players the opportunity to compete in the region’s premier sports facility. This fun and action-packed tournament will be played on native hardwood basketball courts and include tournament swag for all players!

Custer Gold Discovery Days Hot Air Balloon Launch

Join us for the Custer Gold Discovery Days Hot Air Balloon Launch.  The week-long event hosts vendors, live music and more, with a weekend hot air balloon launch from Custer’s Pageant Hill; a park located in the town of Custer. The launch is weather permitting and location may change due to wind direction.  Spectators and passengers are welcome for the ‘weather permitting’ balloon launch.

You can fly!  Spots are limited; reservations are required.  Call 605-673-2520 to book.  Flight is approx one hour and weather permitting. For more information on flying with Black Hills Balloons, check out our FAQs.
 

Do you want to be a spectator?
Spectators should plan on arriving just prior to sunrise for perfect viewing. Bring a chair, your coffee and a camera. Viewing is free and welcome to all ages. Launch and launch location is weather permitting.

American Cornhole Organization Season 19: Black Hills Major at The Box

Step up and show your skills at the ACO Black Hills Major tournament at The Box!
ACO Majors are the main cornhole tournaments of the Season, where all skill levels can play, with an opportunity for anyone to win. ACO members compete for World Ranking Points, and non-members can join in for various “play to play” Walk-Up Tournaments. This two-day Black Hills Major tournament is part of the ACO Great North Conference, featuring an opening reception the day before with its own purse to win.
April 25th: Reception - $500 purse
April 26-27th: Tournament Days – $2500 minimum purse

Mt Rushmore Rodeo at Palmer Gulch

Palmer Gulch will be alive with five action-packed rodeos this season. Give the rodeo cowboys and cowgirls your vocal support, then kick up your heels in your boots (or sandals or tennis shoes) and have a great time!

The Mount Rushmore Rodeo promises lots of Old West excitement. Arrive early to take part in planned activities for rodeo fans and get ready for the hoots and hollers of Wild West rodeo action.

Free to resort and KOA guests $10 day-use fee for non-guests, $5 ages 6-12, 5 and under free.

Produced by LKC Rodeo Productions, the Mount Rushmore Rodeo events include bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, team roping, barrel racing and mutton bustin’ fun for the kids.

Annual Deadwood 3-Wheeler Rally

DEADWOOD 3-WHEELER RALLY
This 5-day 3-Wheeler event will be based out of Historic Deadwood, SD at the Deadwood Event Complex (a.k.a. Rodeo Grounds) with daily destination rides to sites in and throughout the Black Hills area.
Other activities for the week include vendors, socials/BBQ, entertainment, Trike Show n’ Shine, poker runs, awards night, trike parade, music, trike games of skill, charitable fundraising and more! Visit the schedule of events to learn more.

Each registrant will receive an event patch, pin, and discount coupons for food, gaming and admission to local and area attractions. An event wristband provides admission to the 3 Wheeler Central socials, event vendors, Trike Show n Shine, Poker Runs, Trike Games and other activities associated with the event. Register here!

Days of '76 Rodeo & Parade

Experience the thrill and action of the Days of '76 Rodeo, a celebrated event with a rich heritage. This rodeo is the pride of PRCA, holding numerous titles including PRCA Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year, PRCA Midsize Rodeo of the Year, and PRCA Large Outdoor Rodeo of the Year. Held at the iconic venue where the pioneer spirit thrives, attendees can look forward to adrenaline-pumping rodeo performances.

Activities and Highlights:

  • Historic Parade: Marvel at the parade on Historic Main Street, showcasing the charm and history of the event.
  • PRCA Steer Roping: On Sunday at 9:00 AM, watch skilled cowboys in action during the PRCA Steer Roping event.
  • WPRA Barrel Racing Slack: Join the excitement on Monday at 11:00 AM and cheer for your favorite competitors.
  • Military Appreciation Night: Salute the armed forces on Wednesday with special PRCA Rodeo performances at 7:00 PM.
  • Tough Enough to Wear Pink: On Friday, support a great cause during the rodeo at 7:00 PM.

Stratobowl Historic Hot Air Balloon Launch

View a hot air balloon launch from the Stratobowl, located near Rapid City.
Spectators can view the launch from the Stratobowl Rim Trail. It's a short trail walk, up to 1 mile, for the best viewing.

Viewing is not allowed from the launch field, as it is PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Unfortunately, the launch is not a guarantee because it is weather dependent. Pilots will determine if the conditions are safe prior to launch. Sometimes we cancel last minute, but we do our best to communicate in real time. Please check for updates on the main page throughout the course of the weekend.
Facitilities, such as bathrooms, coffee, etc, are not available. This is an invitation to view a hot air balloon launch, not an organized event. Please plan accordingly by bringing water, chairs, cameras, etc, and please be safe when parking and walking to the viewing area.

Preservation Thursday: History, Mystery, and more! Stories and tales of the Frawley Ranch and Spearfish

Alan Maas and JR Hamblet will give a talk on the history of the Frawley Ranch and their experiences with Hank Frawley prior to his passing.
Maas will also cover the mystery of the Thoen Stone and how it shaped his writing of The Kind Whisper. 
Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center; 12:00 p.m.; free for members and $5 for non-members.
